Decorations of the New Holland Island in Saint Petersburg in 2017 is a landmark project for AIRA. During New Year holidays public spaces need a special approach, as citizens spend a lot of time outside. It is necessary to provide entertainment and create a special festive atmosphere. It should not be aggressive or gaudy, but it should definitely be surprising.
For our native city, we have prepared a concept for the design of the island, which has already become a favorite vacation spot for citizens and visitors. New Holland is not only cozy coffee houses, exhibition halls, children's playgrounds and alleys for walking and rest. This is 7.8 hectares of space for the implementation of large-scale projects. In the winter, the island got a temporary ice rink, themed pavilions, street stoves - in general, everything you need for a comfortable park entertainment.
AIRA, in turn, was responsible for creating New Year atmosphere: all elements of decoration were made by our architects and designers.
Our specialists managed to creatively re-think the familiar Christmas symbols, and the main source of inspiration was the Ernst Theodor Wilhelm Hoffmann's fairy tale "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King".
A 4-meter high figure of the Nutcracker was installed at the entrance to the park. The original art object was made of fiberglass - a quality material that can withstand any weather conditions. Another art object attracting the attention of visitors were giant New Year balls with a height of 0.7 m to 1.7 m, located almost in the center of the island.
In the production process, a special technique was applied: the paint was placed inside the ball at the production stage. This method allows art objects to be resistant to precipitation and temperature changes, make their service life much longer, while fiberglass facilitates the installation process.
A large natural spruce became the center of the whole compisition. Lush and high, it has become a traditional addition to the New Year composition on the island. Under the spruce, we placed stylish art objects in the form of gift boxes. For the decoration of trees, we chose not traditional garlands that spoil the trunk and branches of the tree, but elegant luminous suspended structures which look even more beautiful and require less maintenance. The shopping pavilions also did not go unnoticed by designers. Spruce branches with small but bright decorations became a modest accent, complementing the overall concept of the festive decoration.
In projects for New Year decorations, the company always uses light solutions - this is the most popular element of decoration for the winter holidays. LED structures serve as an additional source of illumination when the light day becomes short, and citizens spend more time outside. This is why we used luminous stars and garlands that spread the warm light throughout the island.
